Siding Installation on a central Kentucky property

Siding Installation

Complete siding replacement for Kentucky homes. Vinyl, fiber cement, and engineered wood siding.

Siding Installation in Richmond, Winchester & Berea Kentucky

Siding is your home's primary weather barrier, and central Kentucky's freeze-thaw cycles, humidity, and hail exposure are hard on every siding material. Velkan installs vinyl, fiber cement (James Hardie), and LP SmartSide engineered wood siding on new and existing homes. We handle full replacements and storm-damaged section replacements, matching existing profiles when possible. Every installation includes proper moisture barrier and flashing at all openings.

What the job includes

7 items, every one of them

  • Premium vinyl siding in 30+ colors and profiles
  • James Hardie HardiePlank fiber cement siding
  • LP SmartSide engineered wood siding
  • Proper house wrap moisture barrier installation
  • Flashing at windows, doors, and roof-wall junctions
  • Matching trim and corner post installation
  • Manufacturer warranty options up to 50 years

The problems behind the call

These are what turn up on siding inspections across Madison and Clark County. If you recognise one of them, that is worth a look before it becomes the next one down the list.

  • Hail-dented or cracked vinyl siding after storm
  • Rotted wood siding from Kentucky's humidity
  • Faded or chalked siding requiring painting or replacement
  • Fiber cement installation going wrong, cracking at cut ends

Every inspection is photographed. The report you get names the component, its condition, and what it needs, so nothing rests on a verbal account of what somebody saw on your roof.

How the work runs

Same order every time, so you always know what happens next and when you are being asked to decide something.

  1. Material Selection

We bring samples and help you match your home's architecture with the right profile and color.

  2. Existing Removal

Old siding removed, wall sheathing inspected for moisture damage.

  3. Moisture Barrier

Premium house wrap installed and taped at all laps and penetrations.

  4. Siding Installation

Installed per manufacturer spec, nail hem nailing on vinyl, blind nailing on fiber cement.

  5. Trim & Flashing

All openings flashed before trim is applied, the step most contractors skip.

Siding Installation where you are

The work is the same trade in all three towns and a different problem in each one. Here is what drives it locally.

Richmond

Madison County

Ice damming at the eaves

January, during freeze-thaw

Madison County's hilly terrain pools cold air in the lower neighborhoods, so snowmelt refreezes at the eave and backs water up under the shingles where no amount of surface sealant reaches it.

Winchester

Clark County

Hail bruising, then algae on the north slopes

Hail March to May, algae year-round after

Winchester sits in a corridor that channels storms up from the southwest, and it sits low enough that fog settles in the mornings through spring and fall. The hail cracks the shingle mat; the standing moisture on the north-facing slopes then feeds moss and algae into the damage.

Berea

Madison County

Freezing rain and terrain-driven runoff

Late winter

The Cumberland Plateau foothills load the southern end of the county with freezing rain rather than snow, and the sloped lots around Indian Fort Mountain funnel a whole roof's runoff to a couple of eave points instead of spreading it evenly.

Both are excellent in Kentucky's climate. Vinyl is lower cost, requires zero painting, and handles the humidity well, but hail can crack it and it can't be painted if you want to change color. Fiber cement (James Hardie) is more durable under impact, more dimensional in appearance, and can be repainted, but it costs more and requires periodic repainting every 10-15 years. We help you weigh both based on your budget and priorities.

Hail damage to siding is typically covered under the same storm claim as roof damage. The coverage depends on whether the hail dents or cracks the siding, cosmetic dents alone may not be covered, but cracking that compromises the weather seal is almost always covered. We document siding damage as part of our storm inspection.
