Fascia & Soffit Repair on a central Kentucky property

Fascia & Soffit Repair

Rotted fascia board replacement and damaged soffit repair. Essential for roof edge integrity and animal exclusion.

Fascia & Soffit Repair in Central Kentucky

Fascia and soffit are the structural and aesthetic edge of your roofing system. Rotted fascia can't support gutters. Damaged soffit panels let squirrels and starlings into your attic. And failing soffit vents choke your attic ventilation, accelerating shingle deterioration. Velkan replaces rotted wood fascia, damaged vinyl or aluminum soffit panels, and corroded drip edge as part of standalone repairs or alongside roofing work.

What the job includes

6 items, every one of them

  • Rotted wood fascia replacement with primed pine or PVC
  • Vinyl and aluminum soffit panel replacement
  • Vented soffit installation to maintain attic airflow
  • Animal entry point sealing at soffit gaps
  • Drip edge replacement at eave and rake edges
  • Paint-grade or pre-finished finish options

The problems behind the call

These are what turn up on gutters inspections across Madison and Clark County. If you recognise one of them, that is worth a look before it becomes the next one down the list.

  • Gutters pulling down because fascia board is soft with rot
  • Squirrels or birds entering attic through soffit gaps
  • Ice dam seepage rotting fascia from behind
  • Damaged soffit restricting attic ventilation

Every inspection is photographed. The report you get names the component, its condition, and what it needs, so nothing rests on a verbal account of what somebody saw on your roof.

How the work runs

Same order every time, so you always know what happens next and when you are being asked to decide something.

  1. Find why it rotted

Fascia does not rot on its own. It rots because a gutter overflowed, a drip edge was missing, or the roof edge had no kick-out flashing. We find the cause first, or the new board rots too.

  2. Gutter off, extent exposed

The gutter comes down and we open up enough to see where sound wood starts. Rot almost always runs further than the visible damage suggests.

  3. Replace back to solid framing

Damaged fascia and soffit come out and new material goes in, fastened into sound rafter tails. Where the tails themselves have gone, they get sistered.

  4. Restore the ventilation

Soffit is intake for the whole roof. New soffit goes back vented, and we make sure insulation in the attic is not blocking the airflow at the eave.

  5. Correct the cause, re-hang the gutter

Drip edge and kick-out flashing corrected, then the gutter is re-hung on proper pitch so the thing that caused the rot is gone.

Fascia & Soffit Repair where you are

The work is the same trade in all three towns and a different problem in each one. Here is what drives it locally.

Richmond

Madison County

Ice damming at the eaves

January, during freeze-thaw

Madison County's hilly terrain pools cold air in the lower neighborhoods, so snowmelt refreezes at the eave and backs water up under the shingles where no amount of surface sealant reaches it.

Winchester

Clark County

Hail bruising, then algae on the north slopes

Hail March to May, algae year-round after

Winchester sits in a corridor that channels storms up from the southwest, and it sits low enough that fog settles in the mornings through spring and fall. The hail cracks the shingle mat; the standing moisture on the north-facing slopes then feeds moss and algae into the damage.

Berea

Madison County

Freezing rain and terrain-driven runoff

Late winter

The Cumberland Plateau foothills load the southern end of the county with freezing rain rather than snow, and the sloped lots around Indian Fort Mountain funnel a whole roof's runoff to a couple of eave points instead of spreading it evenly.

Press a key or screwdriver firmly against the fascia board behind your gutter. If it sinks in easily, the wood has rotted, often from water overflowing a clogged gutter over years. The fascia may look fine from a distance but be structurally compromised. We inspect fascia condition as part of every gutter and roofing estimate.
